Day 4 – Heading home

We’d every intention of having a wee lie in on Wednesday morning, however, *someone* forgot to put the DND on the door, meaning the cleaning crew was banging the door down at 9am.  UGH.

After a lengthy discussion, we decided instead of standing outside in the queues to get in to the 2nd day of X-Factor auditions, instead of sunbathing and splashing in the pool, that it’d make most sense to pack the car up and head back to Houston.  With my trip to Chicago less than 24 hours away, there were some logistics we needed to sort out and we’d rather a casual drive home, than a panicked, 10pm or whatever, drive it’d have ended up being.

Brunch happened in Chilli’s in Ennis – which, I regret, I wish I’d held out the extra 15 minutes til we got to the Chilli’s in Corsicana, as the Ennis one, SUCKED! Col barely touched his meal, the chips were stale and less than crunchy, the chicken tasted funny, the strawberry lemonade wasn’t correctly mixed so tasted minging – poor guy!

The rest of the trip home was pretty uneventful, we saw some interesting dirt-graffiti drawn on the back of a lorry.

Live long...and prosper!

And the rest of the time was spent with me being subjected to Col’s Ipod shuffle (which was less than fun), while looking out for Bucees signs to take pictures of (I can’t help it, I love the Bucees signs! LOL!!)

Any road trip, or short break I take with Col is always a fun, and this one was no exception – it was a good, relaxing little jaunt up the road to Dallas.  I’m still not ‘ok’ with Dallas, I think it’s an over rated city – but maybe it’ll grow on me.

En route home, we stopped in Bucees, Col got his customary coffee – though unflavoured this time – and I picked up some Dip n Dots! yay!

96 miles...
Teasing me!!
49 miles!
WHOOHOO!!!

We passed up a huge wildfire that had destroyed a lot of land and that was also smouldering in parts.  I tried to get a picture, but apparently ‘slow down’, to my husband means, 85 +.  Sigh!

Just after passing ole Sam Houston in Huntsville, Col managed to drive STRAIGHT over some roadkill that was lying in the road – ugh.  *shiver* After about 10 feet, he goes ‘so, hopefully we got some along the inside of the tyre so we can have roadkill for dinner’…to which the conversation went something like this,

Me ‘Well, It’d be nicer than anything you’d cook’

Col ‘That’s harsh’

Me ‘I wouldn’t know, since you never cook’

Col ‘Fancy some Asian Helper again? I can cook that…plus none of my ingredients are here!’

Me ‘Is that so?’

Col ‘Yeah, potato waffles…southern fried chicken…pasta’n’sauce’…

Yes, ladies and gents – this is my husband…lol! Jamie Oliver beware!

At home we chilled out for all of 10 minutes, Col went to football and I packed and sorted out logistics for my trip to Chicago – which was a-happenin’ the next day!
