After more bacon for breakfast (yes, we may have gained just a *little* weight on our holiday!) we all went in to town. We dropped Amee off at her bread making class and then Colin dropped Mariano, Col and I off down town to go and do some errands.
Mariano needed to pick up his ticket from a hotel, and Col and I needed to try and sort out the Singtel WiFi network access on my phone – both of which were handled with minimum fuss and so, it was off to my favourite curry chip haunt for lunch! (again with the over eating on holiday! LOL!)
After lunch, we headed to the track, where we met up with Colin Stevenson (who’d dropped Michael off with the sitter). On our way in to the track (we went via a different gate), Col and I stopped off to look at a different merchandise stall – yes, another one!
We both came away with some goods! I FINALLY found a half decent Force India shirt (I couldn’t find one in Malaysia). The girl at the merchandise stall, really deserves a shout out here cause her service was second to none. She went out of her way to help me (including pulling down my undershirt, so the shirt I was trying on, wouldn’t pull it up and flash the world!) She saved my decency from a swarm of Asian men! LOL!!
After shopping, it was time to dander over to the stage (we may, or may not have gotten lost thanks to my hubby – who did, later, admit that my directions were correct to begin with!)
At the stage, a crowd was forming fast – I was surprised, I expected to find a smattering of people around. Nope, the place was packed, we were lucky we got there a little early to stake a claim to ‘seats’.
Why, might you ask, were we gathering in our throngs?
Well, I don’t know how to say this, so I’ll just say it.
RICK ASTLEY was in the building…
Ok, so it was outside, but the principle is the same. He was there.
I was a disbeliever, I snickered and turned my nose up at it, when Col said he wanted to go (and, Mariano was surprisingly excited about the concert!)
After the gig – which was, surprisingly fantastic and made me a believer, (yes, I was well and truly Rick Rolled!!) we exited the track, had a quick bite to eat (at the seriously packed McDonalds) and took two trains to get to a different entrance to the track, in an attempt to make the Boy George concert, but it didn’t happen.
While on the train, we were in the company of a quirky old man. He was talking to another passenger, asking him if he was in town for the Grand Prix (he wasn’t), his reply was hilarious, ‘Neither am I, don’t like it at all, just wear the shirts’ LOL!!! Great entertainment on the short train ride!
Instead of Boy George, we enjoyed some lovely Gelato (from the place we had Gelato previously, at the Singapore Flyer). This time, we sampled white chocolate, chocolate and strawberry flavours and, as delicious as it was, we still didn’t find the perfect combo!
Next up, was Quali. As it happened, we struck gold on the place we chose to watch from, the view was GREAT (and we made the decision to go back early the next day and get the same spot for the race.)
Quali was good to watch, hot, ok, not hot so much as sticky as h*ll and, we were even ‘red flagged’ due to Kamui Kobayashi trying to fly, failing, and crashing into the barriers after missing a chicane. The only other bone of contention during the qualifying session was, that both of the Force India cars made it to the top 10 in Qualifying, but neither of them came out of the pits to set a lap time in Q3 which left the team, the subject of criticism.
After Qualifying, we headed North to Nicoll station (figuring everyone else would be South due to the Shakira concert etc) we barely waited 20 minutes, the total time from track to the house was around one hour – which beats, hands down, the 4-5 hours it took us to get back from the Malaysian track to our hotel room!
I was well impressed with the efficient-ness of the Singaporean get-up. Everything was well organised, though, I DID have to pee in a portaloo (what ever is the world coming to?!?!) and the prices for food/drinks inside the track limits, were pretty reasonable too!
