Food, food and even more food!

Would you look at that? I’m almost up to date on all our to-ings and fro-ings!

I’ve been a somewhat insomniac lately.  In the space of 36 hours last week, I must have slept 5 hours.  It was awful.  Ugh.

Monday morning, Magz and Sam came by the house, we let Sam and the dogs stay here while she and I went to Pappasitos for lunch with my ladies! Sharon, Lori, Julie (with baby Hazel), Crystal (with little Faith) and Crystals friend Frances – lunch was yummy – and I even came home with a box of leftovers for Col’s lunch.

When lunch was over, Magz and I came back home to subject poor Sam to an afternoon of Dirty Dancing and Greys Anatomy.  Col came home a little early and the four of us decided to go to Ghengis Grill for dinner – it was lovely as always! After dinner, it was on to Magz and Sams for a little while before the 4 of us met up with Emily and Luke at Starbucks for a coffee (peppermint hot chocolate) and a catch up before Magz and Sam jetted off home to England for Christmas.

Tuesday I spent most of the day watching Season 12 of ER.  I’m finally getting through that show, I know it’s ancient, but I still love it! Later that night I finally got shot of the pj bottoms and tracksuit bottoms that I’ve been wearing for the last few weeks, put my glad rags on and headed out for our dinner date with Emily and Luke – at our favourite Mexican restaurant, Chuys.  Ok, the margarita I had was virgin, but the food was great as ever!

It was good fun, it’s nice to hang out with friends again.  We’ve been a little slow on that lately, what with the wedding, aftermath and medical issues.  We have some great friends, who really make us both giggle a lot.  Emily and Luke are two of those people, individually they are great people, they’re both intelligent, interesting, bubbly and very funny (especially Em when she’s had a little too much caffeine!) but they’re one of those couples who just warm your heart when you see them – they’re very sweet together! (Sorry Luke, I should say something macho and masculine to uphold your very manly reputation shouldn’t I?! LOL!!)

Wednesday night Col and I decided to head out to Red Lobster, I swear, all we do is eat! LOL! Some people are really just too nice, my friend Lori gave us a gift card for Red Lobster/Olive Garden and a few other places, since Col has never been to Red Lobster we decided to go there in Pearland before Col had football.

The meal was yummy, he really enjoyed it (I’ve tried there before!) and the price was reasonable.  I was naughty and had some mozzarella sticks as an appetiser – whoopsie! So much for the low-fat diet eh?!

When we were done, we still had an hour to kill, so we went to one of our favourite ‘us’ shops to browse in, Half price books.  I came out with 6 books that I stumbled upon in the clearance section – each for $1, a couple were parenting books that I’ve heard are great, ‘What to expect when you’re expecting’, ‘What to eat when you’re expecting’ and ‘What to expect in the first year’ or something like that.  No, we’re not pregnant, but I’m hoping that time isn’t too far away and you can never be too prepared for something like parenthood – especially at a buck a piece!

Football was good as always, I brought a sock (which I’d cast on in the dark ages and was desperate to make headway on), Col had fun and I got to see my lil brother Pierce, who told me I looked good and had lost weight – which, I haven’t (except a gallbladder of course but those aren’t too heavy!) but it was nice to hear!

Thursday, I was a glutton for punishment!  I had my yearly ‘well-woman’ examination at the doctors.  I won’t say much, but what I will say is that you’re more of a ‘well woman’ before you go in than when you come out!

My doctor came in and asked how I was, I told her I was 10 days post-op from a lapcoli, ‘Whaaaaaaaaat?’ she shrieked at me! LOL! She said I was a real trooper to be out doing things like getting a well-woman so soon after an op like that and she was glad to see I’d bounced back so quickly.

When I was done, I called the Alvin DMV to see if there were any testing spots available that afternoon.  I’d called the day before to see if they’d any slots available then, but they didn’t.  It’d been going through my head for a few days prior, but I’d not built up the courage or found the right time to go and do it.

Thursday, however, I apparently wanted to get all the pain over and done with at once (hence the glutton for punishment thing!) and, coincidently they had testing spots available.  The downside though, is that you have to drive to the testing centre, get in line and wait – all just to get the appointment to do the test.

She told me to come back at 3.15pm and that I’d need a list of things before I could take the test.  At 2.15pm I called to see if I needed the actual state inspection certificate, or if the sticker in my window would suffice.  She said the sticker would be fine but not to forget my proof of insurance – which I’d not been told the first time, so, I quite literally tore the house apart, called Col about 20 times to see if he knew where the insurance cards were and I left with JUST enough time to get up to Alvin (leaving the house looking like someone had trashed the house!).

I got there, pulled up at the line and waited until 3.35pm when the examiner came out of the office.  She asked for proof of insurance, I handed it over – only to be told it was expired and did I have an up to date one cause she couldn’t even do a pre-test check without proof of ID.  I almost cried!

She said she could take me for my test at 4.30pm, which would give Col enough time to get home and get the up to date one out to me in Alvin.  My nerves were shot.  He got it to me just in time – 4.20pm!

The test was fast, 15 minutes or so and she was all business.  She told me quickly that I’d passed when we pulled up and parked – although she did stop me from reverse parking at the end of my test.  Ironically, SLB (Cols company) enforce a reverse parking only rule, they say it’s safer.  The test instructor informed me that they’d had too many accidents as a result of reverse parking that it’d been banned from the parking lot! hehe!!

Either way, I drove home a very proud gal to an even more proud hubby – he was thrilled for me!

Friday I up at early, I had my post-op with my surgeon at 9am.  I told him my lingering collarbone pain and he told me to double my Advil anti-inflamatory meds for 3 days to try and make it go away.  He said otherwise I was fine so Col and I decided to go to Panera Bread for breakfast, since Panera Bread is close to the place I ordered my glasses a few weeks ago we popped by to pick them up too.

It was a productive hour and a half!  When we were done, we went home, I watched ER and Col worked, we had a celebratory lunch at Panda Garden to celebrate my passing the driving test the day before.

Saturday morning we both got up late, I think I’ve started to catch up on all of my missed sleep these last couple of weeks.  We didn’t do much other than watch lots of NCIS during the day but in the evening we met up with Cindy and Tim for an early dinner at BJ’s.  It was lovely, the company moreso than my tough pork chops – but it was great to see Cindy and Tim.  It’s been way too long! We had a nice chat with them and on the way home, we stopped off at Marble Slab for some ice cream – hoping that it wouldn’t demolish another of Cols teeth and result in him needing another emergency trip to the dentist!

Inspite of our original plans falling through, (due to both Colin and Amee Stevenson being sick), today was a really fun day!

Richmond Arms

We both got up early (strangely) and went up to ‘Richmond Arms’ for lunch.  My friend Angie told me about the Richmond Arms – she tried it yesterday for lunch with her hubby.

Man Utd and F1

The pub is a British pub, it’s small, quaint and pretty close to authentic!

Sausage Rolls

They served sausage rolls!!!! Col was thrilled!!! I ordered the fish and chips and Col ordered…wait for it… quesidillas! haha! Anyways!

After lunch it was on to Gallery Furniture (both the one at the Galleria and the one up I45 N) to peruse the furniture

and the wildlife.  We have a groupon for Gallery, but we couldn’t find anything to take home today! boo!

We also had a groupon to a place called, ‘Sweet Lolas yoghurt bar’, it took us a while to find it, but when we did we were pleasantly surprised.

LolasYou pick your flavour(s) of frozen yoghurt, you pick your topping(s) - they have about 20 to choose from. I picked the Merrimint and dreamy chocolate and toppings I picked strawberries, little white chocolate chips and lemon cookie crunch - it was delicious!mmmmm!

They only have one size of cup – you fill it as full as you’d like and when you get to the check out, they weigh it and you pay by the ounce.  It’s such a quaint little place!

At home, we watched NCIS, we enjoyed a delicious and romantic dinner of slow cooked beef (I have enough left overs for, like, 3 more meals!), had a few sips of Cranberry wine (first alcohol since the operation), listened to some music (Col’s enjoying putting together playlists on the mac mini) and are about to watch all of the Christmas episodes of the West Wing!

It’s been a busy week, I’m definitely on the mend and starting to feel a lot better, also looking forward to a lovely romantic Christmas here at home with my hubby!
