Oy! oy! oy! I don’t think I’ve ever had quite such a busy trip to Iowa before…And we all know, I tend to have pretty busy trips when I visit the land of corn (and beans!)
So, for a change, on the outgoing flight, I didn’t book it for stupid o’clock (otherwise known as the butt-crack of dawn!) Instead, I booked it for later in the day – which meant I could lie-in, followed by breakfast, emails, then I finished up packing and decided to scrapbook until Col got home from work at around 11.30am. It also meant, that Amber didn’t have to take extra time off work for an airport run!
At check in, the machine, once again, didn’t know who I was! After flying through the Elite queue, I was ahead of schedule so sat listening to some Matty Nay – in preparation for the upcoming concert in Des Moines – before we boarded. The flight was a turbulent one – moreso than I’ve had in a while. It was bumpy, but quick, which was good, cause I was excited and impatient to see my favourite two year old!
After landing and picking up my bags, we started to head to a nearby restaurant for dinner. En route, we got stopped at a red light. Amber, (in attempting to demonstrate how far Averie has developed since the last time I’ve been in town) asked Averie what red meant, to which, she replied ‘Stop’.
When the light turned green, Averie yelled, ‘Gooooooooooooo!’, indicating that she’d also learned what the green light was for. Amber then asked, ‘Averie, what does the yellow light mean?’ and her reply, ‘Slow’ satisfied both of us that she understood that a yellow light meant slow down.
However, after a moment’s pausing/thinking, she followed that up with ‘Aunty Las is slow’. Well, we about died laughing! LOL!! I was crying with laughter – I guess she also understands what slow means, as well as that the yellow light means slow down!
Dinner with Emily, was in a Mexican restaurant called Cancun which was fun and pretty decent Mexican food to boot!
When we were done with our dinner, we went to Walmart to do a bit of a grocery shop before heading home where I made Averie and I a dessert of strawberries, bananas and some cool whip, which went down a storm!
When we’d finished, we played a little with Miss Averie’s toys, I put her in her pj’s and put her to bed – after reading 3 stories (Bug book, frog book and penguin book!) and being asked not to leave about 4 times!
