Slimming world: Garlic cheese fries

Firstly, it need be noted that this side-dish does not, by anyone’s reckoning conform to the Slimming World rule of 2/3 Free food to 1/3 Superfree food.  However, when you want an indulgent dinner (perhaps, like me, on weigh-in night, on Thursday night) it’s perfect.  In fact, it’d be great as a weekend ‘fake away’ – yes, it’s that good!

I figured that since I was doing the 100 recipe challenge, that I should probably arrange to try some side dishes (that weren’t just ‘roasted potatoes’ or ‘fries’) and some vegetable dishes (that weren’t just ‘roasted root vegetables’) and this dish was one of those finds.

Please remember that if you aren’t using dairy as your HeA(s) that you need to syn it all, it makes quite a lot of sauce so the syns will be split between 3-4 portions, so it should be quite low!

At home, I love the creamy garlic dips, or the kebab sauces, chip sauces, pretty much every kind of sauce that is normally mayo-ed up to the eyeballs (as my dad would say), filled with oil and all kinds of ‘bad’ things.  Here, even the dipping sauce with pizza delivery upsets me – it’s a garlic butter kind of sauce, eeeeewwwwww!

It was quick, easy and absolutely delicious! Col said to me ‘you better hope this is gross’, proceeded to try it, and said ‘sucks to be you’…it’ll be used frequently I imagine.  I want to try this on a kebab, in a pasta bake or mac and cheese and a potato gratin type of bake.

We had it again last night…oops?

Ingredients
  • French fries
  • 2 ounces fat free/low fat cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons skimmed milk (I used more)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Pam
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup shredded sharp cheddar
Instructions
  1. Melt the cream cheese in a small saucepan over medium high heat. Whisk in the milk, garlic, oil and salt. Stir in the cheese until smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add more milk as needed.
  2. Serve fries immediately, drizzled with cheese sauce.
