This was a slightly later wake up than most of the days on our trip. We got up at 9am, got ourselves in gear and headed out. We took the monorail (we used this a LOT) one stop, walked a little (man it was HOT!) and got the Hop-on bus (our tickets were 48hour tickets).
Our first stop was the KL tower. We’d heard that, although you have to pay for it, the KL tower is a much better place to look out from than the Petronas towers. The Petronas ‘twin’ towers, are free to enter, however, they only have a limited number of tickets available every day and you have to be in the queue from before 7am (when they start handing out tickets) and you’re not guaranteed to get them.
Instead, we paid to go up the tower and take a look around. We ended up spending longer there than we anticipated! We started off by having brunch at the infamous Rainforest Cafe (knock off!), it was really tasty – surprisingly so given that it was a tourist attraction, and it wasn’t badly priced either.
I had a delicious fish sandwich with a fresh pineapple smoothie and Col’s club sandwich wasn’t bad either – and was about the size of my head!
We got the ‘tacky’ tourist picture taken before we headed up the tower. The trip up in the lift takes just under a minute and the view from the top is really something.
We’d considered having lunch in the revolving restaurant on top of the tower, but Trip Advisor (my trusty holiday go-to guide) gave it poor reviews, so we passed.
We took some pictures, dandered around and got the bus to China Town.
I’d read that C.T was a real hotspot for knock off goods – but, I figured that’s not all it had to offer. I was wrong! The entire ‘cross-shaped’ 2 streets were lined with knock off bags, shoes, sports shirts, watches, dvds etc – none of which Col and I are interested in.
It was interesting to walk down both of the streets, but beyond that we didn’t spend anything. That is, until we found a little stall like the one I’d bought stuff off in Central Market. I wanted to pick up one of the Japanese style dressing gowns, a little something for Averie and a couple of other bits and bobs.
My research had shown me that it was most definitely a haggling type of place. So, when she showed me the total, I laughed (again, something my research told me to do) and countered with a dirt cheap, offensive counter-bid.
She asked me for RM320 (Just over $100!!!), 2 dressing gowns (Col encouraged a 2nd one cause he liked them!) at RM90 each, a little gift for Averie RN60, and two little cases at RM40 each. Now, the cases I’d seen and already bought in Central Market for 10 RM each, so I knew they were WAY over priced.
I offered her RM60 ($20) total. She was horrified (as she would be), I got her down to RM50 per dressing gown (which took a lot of work in sweltering heat!) and RM40 for Ave’s little thing.
I told her I could get the little cases in Central Market for RM10 each and that’s all I’d give her, she refused – which shocked both Col and I, but I paid her the RM140/around $45 and went straight to Central Market! lol!
We walked straight down the street and back to Central Market, where I went back to the same stall as I had done before, the girl remembered me and I came away with exactly what I wanted – and a little more! LOL!
True to our tourist labels, we decided to take the LRT (regular train) to the Hard Rock for dinner – I had chicken mac and cheese and Col had another club sandwich (California style) – no, I’ve no idea what was wrong with him either! haha!
We came away with a Hard Rock mug – I was considering a T-shirt but couldn’t justify the $40 (+) price tag, especially given that I had a feeling we’d want a lot more at the track than in the Hard Rock – so a mug it was!
We got the monorail back to the hotel (after a short delay) and watched the Christmas Glee while Col figured out what our GP plans would be for the following day (on the last 2 hours of our internet).
When he was done, we got into our swim gear and headed down to the pool, it wasn’t great, it was cold, the ‘hot tub’ was a cold tub, there was a guy swimming lengths of the pool and I didn’t wanna disrupt that (and getting in to the pool would have, as it was a narrow pool) and there was no ice cream like the reviews had said there was!
Disappointed, we abandoned the idea of a dip in the pool (and with the prices, a trip to the spa was out too!) so we went back to the room and watched American Idol – ooooh can’t miss my weekly dose of Casey! LOL!
At around 9.30pm I started to get hungry, Col talked me in to ordering room service…not that it took much persuasion. I ordered the Malaysian Chicken Curry – it arrived on it’s own little trolley, with a table cloth, silverware – the lot!
The curry was insanely spicy (brought tears to our eyes!) but it was tasty as was the rice that came with it. When we’d finished with the food, I swiftly passed out on Col’s shoulder while he watched some TV and slept right through…
