Thursday after I came back from Iowa, brought with it a trip to see the lovely Dr Ransom, my dentist. When I arrived they wanted me to sign a waiver thing for my root canal – wait, what? but I don’t need a root canal!!! lol!
Instead, I had my last 2 necessary fillings, I finished my treatment plan and I only have to go back for a clean now in a few months. I’m very proud of myself! There was a time I’d not go near a dentist, now, I go voluntarily, I even volunteer for work to be done (changing silver UK fillings to nice tooth-coloured ones!)
Friday brought with it my blog-iversary, one whole year of public blogging on this wordpress blog…wow, did that go fast or what?!
It also brought with it a win for my Aeros in game 1 of the Calder Cup finals series against the Bingham Senators – it was a GREAT game!
Unfortunately, Saturday’s game 2, didn’t go quite so smoothly.
In spite of the Aeros pulling out all the stops, playing like I’ve never seen them play before and really giving it their all, we lost in OT. Sometimes the chips don’t fall your way, however, that said, the Ref didn’t help our cause at ALL. In fact, I’d not have been surprised if there was an angry Houston Mob at his car that night – he sucked so bad. Just like goal tenders can win or lose a game for you, Ref’s can as well.
The loss hurt, bad. Everyone felt that we deserved to win it and it slipped from our grasp – at this stage in the competition, every win, is a big win and every loss is multiplied…
Sunday rolled around again, which meant only one thing – Grand Prix time!! And what a Grand Prix it was! After the accident, the previous day during Qualifying which left the young Mexican driver, Sergio Perez in hospital, we all hoped for a safer race, come race-day. However that was not to be, (it IS Monaco after all!) and another ambulance, containing another driver (Vitaly Petrov) was hospital-bound by the end of it.
Injured drivers aside, it was a great race – it raised some questions about the rules regarding fixing your car and changing tyres under a red-flag condition, as well as why the heck the race re-started with only 8 laps to go…but either way, it was a memorable and seriously emotional one!
Monday was Memorial day, if you recall from last year, it’s a day in which the Americans remember their armed forces. Those who have served in the past, those who have lost their lives for their country and those who continue to serve.
For Col, it means it’s a bank holiday, so, we did something we’d not done in such a long time – take in a double feature!
For a change, it wasn’t a ‘my choice’, ‘his choice’ kind of deal, though you’d think it to look at the movie titles (Bridesmaids and The Hangover). We’d heard good things about both of them and we both wanted to see both films, so off we went!
They were pretty funny, I think we both preferred Bridesmaids to the Hangover though – which surprised us both might I add! But they really were entertaining films and, I managed to knit 1inch shy of the heel on a sock that has only had the toes knit for about a year now! Yay for forward progress!!
Tuesday was a sad day, just like last year, my brothers birthday made me homesick. It made me miss my brother, my sister and my daddy, our friends, our apartment, our car…wow…it wasn’t too long ago I was calling it all ‘Col’s’ stuff…it’s funny how marriage somehow makes you feel ‘entitled’ eh? Well I always told him the Supra was mine 😉 LOL!
Anyways, in my sad-funk, I apparently forgot to turn on the crock-pot to cook dinner, I put the meat in it, the stock in it and left it off (d’oh!) so we had to resort to having Chinese for tea!
We’ve found a pretty great local chinese (they even do chips with their food – still no prawn crackers though! LOL!) – and they even have a delicious curry! I’m in my element! LOL!
Wednesday was visitor-prep, so I kept the dogs downstairs (with a nifty chair-barricade that Col had set up in place) while I totally blitzed the upstairs (with the exception of my already clean craft room) from top to bottom.
I took a time-out to head out to lunch with the ladies for Cindy’s birthday. We went to BJ’s where I got to try their grilled cheese (which was deeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-lish!) I also got to see Lori, Helen, Janet and Cindy for the first time in FOREVER which was nice too!
Up next, visitors ‘do’ Houston!
