Still playing catch up…

Picking up from my last blog post (see? I told you keeping it short was difficult for me!) I’m still trying to bring y’all up to date on the goings on in Casa McMaster over the last few weeks since we’ve been home.  In short – I’ve been a-crazy busy!

Sunday was the bake sale itself, it was a LOT of fun.  Col and I were the first people there and we had a lot of the bake sale set up before other choir members started to arrive.  But it wasn’t long before the team was in place and our ‘raise money’ plan was put in to action, we had a bunch of volunteers handing out flyers about our upcoming concert, we had a few people ‘manning’ the tables and we had one person taking the money.

Raffle prizes and our Tshirts/Hats for sale 🙂

The day went fast, it was originally supposed to be an 11am-3pm job, but it turned in to a 9.45am to 5pm gig instead.  It wasn’t just a good fundraiser, it also gave me a chance to get to know a few of the choir members a little better, which, was a great bonus.

Team talk!

Not to mention, a great financial success (we raised over $1,100) and chances are I’ll be hosting another one in April time if we can get permission from a local business to host one.

Monday my back that I’d injured on Saturday in the car, went from bad to worse, but the choir gained a new member Lindsay (yes, the same one I mentioned above).  She came to listen to us rehearse and she was so moved by the music, that she decided to audition on the spot!

Tuesday I babysat for little Eve, well, I say babysat, she slept while I cleaned the kitchen from stem to stern, she wasn’t a bother at all.  That night I had a choir fundraising meeting up in the city, while Col took in the F1 2008 review that he got himself with his birthday gift cards.

Wednesday, I shopped.  I was having a horrible day, so I got in the car and went for a spin.  I did a number of TJ Maxx’s (people at home said that TK Maxx has cheap Le Creuset items, so I thought I’d check TJ Maxx here) with no success.  However, I did luck out in a Home Goods, so I then went on a mission to frequent Home Goods stores and pick up a few odds and ends of my Cobalt colour that Le Creuset are retiring – plus, H.G had it at a great price, so it was stock-up time!

Wednesday night (also known as Leap day) was also date night for the McMasters, we went to Panda Garden for a quick bite to eat before we went to see the Descendants in the cinema.

‘The Descendants’ is a film that Col has wanted to see FOREVER.  It’s a fantastic film, tragically sad, but a really, really great film!

Thursday, I had my birthday lunch with one of my choir buddies, Cam Sa, we lunched in Pappa’s BBQ and had a good catch-up chat, before I nipped up to Rice Village to shop with Natalie.  I’d not seen Natalie in ages and she was soon to leave for a trip back home, so what better way to spend an afternoon than book shopping and enjoying a little froyo?

Thursday night, Col had gotten us tickets for the Improv Comedy Club up I-45, to see a comedian he likes, Paul Mooney.  The comedy show ‘accidentally’ lasted for three hours, yes, three hours.  And I say ‘accidentally’ because when he discovered he had run three hours, he was genuinely shocked! LOL!

The show was good, not as good as some of the other guys he’s taken me to see, but good all the same, and Col enjoyed it, which is the main thing.

Friday was soup making day with the lovely Crystal at Casa Bridge.  Crystal kindly taught me how to make split pea and bacon soup (read about it here).  After a tasty Cornish pasty for lunch I decided to take a ‘quick’ spin up Hwy 290 to the Outlets in Cypress, North Houston.  I was on the hunt for more Le Creuset (not the bake ware this time) but mostly because I wanted a looooooooooooong drive!

That night, we’d made plans to hook up with Kat, Mariano and the boys for dinner at our favourite Indian restaurant here in Houston, the London Sizzler.  Which was great, it was nice to see the Rojas family, we don’t hang out nearly enough with those guys!

Saturday was mostly ‘written off’ as I had choir from 9am to 3pm, so by the time 3pm came, I was exhausted and hoarse and Col and I spent the rest of the weekend chilling out and catching up on our long, long, LONG list of TV show’s that had started to back-up on our Hulu page!

Monday morning brought around another SSA Board meeting – can you believe that another month has gone by? It’s March…MARCH?!? Where the heck did February rush off to?

Tuesday brought with it a first for me, a CPR and First Aid course.  My friend Magz is the Health and Safety person for the SSA here and she set it up for us all.  Around 35 ladies got together at the Hilton Garden Inn (the one that all our family and friends stayed at when they visited for the wedding, so it brought back lots of memories for Magz and I).

The SSA ladies, some with their 'half' boyfriends!

The event ran from 10am to 3pm, it was very informative and not to mention, lots of fun! I learned a lot and can’t recommend it enough, I really learned a lot.

Tuesday night – wait til you hear this – Col and I were babysitting for little Eve so the Maddens could go out for date night.  Col and I had asked Jo and Mark out for dinner, but forgot about the babysitting, so, instead, we asked them round to Magz and Sam’s house for dinner so we could do both! LOL!

Wednesday, I dragged my lazy butt back to Body Attack – Super Sally taught a rockin’ class and I really enjoyed being back at the gym.  I’m putting music on my phone, digging out my earphones and going to attempt the C25K – this time, however, on a treadmill instead of on the concrete.  That’s the plan, I just gotta get to it!

After a quick shower at the Maddens, Magz and I headed to lunch with the ladies for Crystals birthday.  I’d never had dumplings, so we went to HK Dim Sum in Bellaire.  I have to say, I’m glad I tried the food, but it’s not jumping to the top of my ‘fave food’ list.

Cute forks!

Frances brought little cakes called buntinis, in a variety of flavours.  She also brought these adorable little forks that you can put little candles in – I love them!

Cute cakes!

Can I just say, I have the best friends around!

Lunch group 🙂
